John Evans

Many of you may not know that John Evans, an active member of our bicycle club, was seriously injured in a bicycle accident in late December. John was riding on Hwy 89 South going away from Prescott when for some reason unexplained he went off the side of the road into a deep culvert and apparently landed on his back. He suffered broken ribs, multiple bruises and two fractured vertebras at the base of the neck. Fortunately, although the injuries are serious, there is no paralysis. John was fortunate also that someone was riding with him who had a cell phone. This individual was in front of John, thought she heard a noise and when she looked back, John was gone. She heard him call, found him in the deep culvert and was able to summon rescue efforts.

John has been immobilized in a halo device to try to promote healing of the vertebra. This has not been successful, and currently he is scheduled for an operation to fuse the two vertebra on April the 8th. Despite all this, John is in relatively good spirits. We wish him the best and know that soon after the scheduled operation he will be up and around again. If you would care to drop him a card or letter, his address is: 1270 Los Arcos Dr., Prescott, Az. 86301.
