Dear Chain Gang members and friends:

We are growing! The Chain Gang is experiencing a steady growth in membership and attendance at the rides. We have scheduled rides 4 days a week and I am always seeing new faces. It is really gratifying to see all abilities of riders having fun on our rides. George Wood currently holds the record for leading the biggest ride at 17 people but at this rate that record will not stand long.

I would like to mail out another newsletter. The last newsletter was a one-man show. This time I will write one article and help fold and staple. It is up to you guys to do the rest. If there is no interest I will just stick to the monthly email newsletter.

Many people have been asking about jerseys. I think it is a good time to get new ones. I will start getting sponsors this fall and we can go from there. If any of you have ideas please let me know.

We are starting to get some kids on our rides. I always want to encourage and help the next generation of cyclists and propose that the club use its funds to provide free membership to anyone under 18 after they have attended 5 rides. I don’t think that we will get a flood of kids but it helps the parents financially and us in terms of insurance and parental consent. I can remember saving up my middle school lunch money to buy my next tubular but always being a member of the local club for free.

I will talk to non-email members informally and if I do not hear any objections it will become Chain Gang policy. Please send Comments
